Well, the justice department has its sacrificial lamb, a low level operator it can trot out and volunteer: Monica Goodling is the culprit for turning the DOJ into the Soviet Politburo, circa 1949.

Yeah, sure, I believe that. I also believe the Seattle Mariners will win the World Series someday and my daughter thinks Tupac is still alive, but I think those are probably BETTER bets then that Gonzales had no clue what was going on underneath him at DOJ OR that anyone higher up then Goodling will be called on the carpet for these crimes.

"Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., said "it is crystal clear that the law was broken" by the political hiring process. "But since it is unlikely that Monica Goodling acted on her own," Schumer added, "the question is, how many others were involved."

Ya think????

Thank you for shedding some light to this community on the DOJ's malfeasance. Yup, Goodling is culpable; but for Gonzalez to plead ingorance, is, well, ignorant.

I hope Monica Badling gets punished. But something tells me she will be taken care of by the well organized right wing network of wackos. She doesn't need to be a lawyer to be taken care of.

I think that's the problem.

These underlings KNOW they will be protected, even IF they have to serve some meager sentence, they will have a cushy job at some rightwing think tank waiting for them when they get out.

Or, they get the Scooter Libby free get out of jail pass.

In face, I think Bush fully pardons Scooter on his way out, as a nice big F-YOU to the Democrats.

On Nov 4th, we elected "the smart guy" and the world celebrated!

There are a few former attorneys general that are rolling in their graves right now.

On second thought, they've probably been doing it for a quite a few years.

On a good note:

(April 2008) Alberto Gonzales, like many others recently unemployed, has discovered how difficult it can be to find a new job.

Gonzales, the former attorney general who was forced to resign last year, has been unable to interest law firms in adding his name to their roster, Washington lawyers and his associates said in recent interviews.

He has, through friends, put out inquiries, they said, and has not found any takers. What makes Gonzales's case extraordinary is that former attorneys general, the government's chief lawyer, are typically highly sought.
